Member Case StudyKiran's Sandwich Generation journey with Cleo

Kiran's Story

Kiran is 37 years old, married with two children and a third one on the way. His daughter, Piju, is healthy and typically has a few preventive care visits each year. Kiran’s son, Amar, is currently dealing with anxiety in school.

Kiran’s mom lives across the country and is starting to need extra help around the house. He’s juggling a lot right now while trying to focus on work at the same time.

Getting connected

Kiran learns about Cleo through his medical plan, Homewood Health. He enrolls in Cleo, downloads the app, and adds his spouse so she can enroll and receive support as well.

During enrollment, he takes the Family Health Index assessment and answers questions about his and his family’s needs. Kiran learns he needs to improve his self-care, and his scores indicate to his Guide, Allison, that he is at risk for burnout. Allison helps set Kiran up in a 6-week peer coaching group to learn the tools he needs to prioritize his wellbeing.

What's the Family Health Index?

The Family Health Index is Cleo’s proprietary quantitative caregiver health assessment. It measures family health across seven dimensions, allowing Cleo to analyze and be proactive about the specific areas in which members need support.

Engaging with Cleo's Support Plans

Kiran sees in his Cleo app that his Support Plan has been updated with his assessment results. He’s able to see everything Cleo recommends in one place, letting him keep track of his progress as he works toward his goals.

In a Welcome Call with his Guide, Allison, Kiran shares that he and his wife are expecting their third child. He also discusses his needs around supporting Amar’s anxiety while managing his mom’s care from a distance.

Support Plan Updated

WHAT'S A SUPPORT PLAN?

Support Plans are dynamic, personalized task management for Cleo members. Members can view recommended next steps for connection and support both inside and outside of Cleo, in bite-sized, manageable steps.

Connecting to Cleo Specialists

Allison connects Kiran and his spouse with a Pregnancy & Birth Specialist, Meagan. During their first video session, Meagan talks with them about where they’re at with finding the right provider and how they’re doing with birth preparation. She recommends they register for upcoming group classes, including Birth Plan Creation and Lactation Preparation.

After the call, Kiran’s guide Allison sends in-app resources to Kiran — including resources on helping Amar’s anxiety at school and a webinar on “Navigating the Sandwich Generation.”

1 month inChecking in with Kiran's Cleo Guide

Kiran has been exploring Cleo’s library of resources related to caregiving from a distance, helping his spouse prepare for birth, and tending to his children’s needs. He is feeling more confident knowing what to prioritize and where he can seek help.

Kiran messages Allison, his Cleo Guide, to report that he’s gained the tools he needs from his peer coaching group to set goals for how to manage his many responsibilities without compromising his own health and wellbeing.

He is still working through the overwhelm that comes with parenting and caregiving, but he’s feeling rejuvenated and supported.

Securing care for Kiran's mother

During a video session with one of Cleo’s Caregiving Specialists, Kiran mention he needs help finding care for his mother a few days a week. His Guide, Allison, connects him with Cleo’s Care Activity Team. After filling out a few details around his mom’s needs in his Cleo app, the Care Activity Team gets to work by calling local agencies, identifying candidates, and setting up virtual interviews for Kiran.

At the same time, Kiran’s Caregiving Specialist connects him with additional resources around transportation and financial support for his mother.

What's the Care Activity Team?

Cleo’s Care Activity Team is a concierge service that specializes in both community resources and employer benefits. This team researches, vets, interviews, schedules, helps decide, and secures resources on behalf of our members, such as child care, elder care, health care, financial services, household services, and many others.

The Care Activity Team helps members check things off their to-do list, and therefore alleviate root-cause stressors.

Learning about the benefits offered by his employer

With a new child on the way, Kiran wants to ensure him and his spouse feel confident securing the right childcare for Piju and Amar. Kiran’s Guide sends him in-app resources including a video on navigating childcare choices as well as information on relevant benefits offered by his medical plan, Homeward Health.

Kiran checks out these benefits in his Cleo app and can learn more about the childcare options available to him.

Benefit Ecosystem

Cleo's Smart Benefits Hub

Within the Cleo app, members can view and learn more about the additional benefits available to them as offered by their employer or health plan. Members are recommended the benefits that are most applicable to their unique needs based on the support they indicate they need from Cleo upon enrollment.

Finding a supportive community

After reading more in the Cleo app about supporting aging parents, Kiran starts reflecting on the challenges of caregiving from afar — especially while also raising two young kids.

He joins a Cleo Connect for Caregivers group, guided by a Cleo Caregiving Specialist, to connect with others who are navigating long-distance caregiving and the daily juggle of showing up for both aging loved ones and their own families.
