2026 FHI Findings: Burnout hits a record high: Why parents of young children are now the most at risk

New data reveals that burnout risk has increased across every stage of parenting since last year, with risk factors escalating most rapidly for parents of infants and preschoolers.

According to the latest Family Health Index™ findings, burnout risk has increased across every single stage of parenting over the last year.

From those caring for newborns to those supporting adult loved ones, the emotional and physical toll on caregivers in the workforce is intensifying, creating a significant ripple effect on talent stability and organizational productivity.

Burnout risk is escalating fastest for new parents

While the highest overall concentration of high-risk individuals remains among parents of older youth and those caring for adults, the velocity of the crisis is most alarming at the start of the parenting journey.

The data reveals that risk factors are escalating most rapidly for those with the youngest children:

  • Preschool parents: Saw the largest relative spike, with high-risk individuals jumping to 49% in 2025 from 34% in 2024.
  • Infant parents: Experienced the second-largest increase of 36%, with 43% of this group now screening as high-risk.

This data indicates that the pressures associated with early parenting are mounting significantly, creating a critical need for early intervention.

Cleo’s impact supporting those at highest risk for burnout

The universal rise in burnout risk represents a growing segment of the workforce experiencing emotional and physical symptoms that directly impact organizational health, productivity, and talent stability.

However, identifying these risks is the first step toward meaningful improvement. Cleo provides specialized support through every stage of life, ensuring that caregivers are not navigating these escalating pressures alone.

The results are measurable: In 2025, nearly two-thirds (64%) of high-risk members showed a measurable improvement in their FHI score. As Cleo members improve their scores, they experience a tangible lift in their overall health and caregiving situations, allowing them to show up more effectively both at home and at work.
